KOS -  ISLAND OF HIPPOCRATES AND BEAUTIFUL MARINA

Kos island is pretty close to the turkish coastline, only a few Nautical Miles separate the town of Kos on the eastcoast from Bodrum.

KOS - AUTHORITIES

Anyone arriving in Kos from Turkey must ABSOLUTELY complete formal declaration.

The current political situation requires strict adherence to formalities.

IMMIGRATIONLESSONS

IMMIGRATION POLICY

Since 2017, the Immigration Police have been located at the entrance to the old port on the stb (opposite the former building!) in an Italian-style building opposite the fortress. There you present your crew list and all ID cards.

If there are non-EU members in the crew, they should appear in person. You can also get the customs stamp here.

KOS MARINA

Kos has an excellent and professionally run marina.200 berths in the water and around 200 on land have been fully booked for years. The major charter companies in Greece charter sailing yachts and catamarans here, but they also offer luxurious motor yachts with a captain and crew.

Day slots for yachts traveling through are available, but NOT or extremely difficult from FRIDAY to SUNDAY morning, as then there is a charter change.Inquiries about guest berths should be made in advance by telephone and be sure to report them on channel 77 before arriving. If nothing is free, you can perhaps move to the old city harbor if you can find space there or simply anchor between the marina and the clearly visible fortress (beach area). The anchorage is 3-7m of well-holding sand.

A marina expansion for a good 1,000 yachts is planned, but - as is typical for Greece - has been repeatedly postponed for years.

But the service is excellent and the marina has a very pleasant atmosphere.

COAST GUARDPORT POLICE

The next point of contact for those clearing in, but also for yachts passing through Greek waters, is the Port Police, which is located on the other side of the harbor on the harbor promenade in a slightly recessed white building on the 1st floor.

Please note and register and pay online the E-TEPAI fee, which has been in effect since May 2019 and is payable for the period of your stay in Greek waters. You can find extensive information about this here[click]

You should have read the manual and the FAQ beforehand; it can help if you have already registered all your own and ship data.

According to information, the DEKPA that was previously required will no longer be needed in 2021, you just have to take your crew list to the Port Police and have it stamped.

There are still a few smaller harbors on Kos that are partially suitable for yachts and catamarans.

On the north coast this is Mastihari, but there is no mooring there as the ferry to Kalymnos and Pserimos docks there.

Strong swell, open from the N, flat.

At the northeast corner is the small protective harbor of Limionas, which can only be accessed with very shallow boats. On the southeast side you can moor or anchor at Kefalos, and in the usual northerly winds you can also anchor in front of the long sandy beaches.Further east you can find a place in the harbor of Kardamena, in the front area only as a very shallow yacht or with a catamaran.

KARDAMENA PORT KOS

Kardamena is close to the airport on the South Coast:
It has a small harbour, but if that is full, one can drip the ancho a little outside in summer, because usually the prevailing winds are from North.

A sailing workshop is just a few hundred meters away on the side street.

Leave the marina at the entrance and turn right for about 200m.There you turn left and the next shop belongs to Zlatko, a very good and dedicated sailmaker.

BOAT MANTENANCE SERVICE

Pierre Dumont's AZUR Marine Service organizes and oversees the maintenance and repairs of yachts.
